Accentuate the negitive Big Idea Negative numbers help us to model many real world situations. Investigation 1: Extending the Number Line
Essential Question #1: How do I put positive and negative numbers in order?
Problem 1.3 Measuring tempurture

A. Arrange the following temperatures in order frooom lowest to highest:
-15< -8< -2< 0< +4< +12

B. The temperature reading on a thermometer is 5 F. tell what the new reading will be if the temperature
1. rises 10=
15 F 2. Falls 2= 3 F 3. falls 10= -5 F 4. rises 7= 12 F

C. the temperature reading on the thermometer is -5 F. tell what the new reading will be if the temperature
1. falls 3= -8 F 2. rises 3= -2 F 3. falls 10= -15 F 4. rises 10= 5 F

D. in 1-6, give the temperature halfway between the two given temperatures.
1. 5 F
2. 5 F
3. -5 F
4. -10 F
5. 0 F
6. -11 F

E. in 1-4 tell which temperature reading is farther than -2.
1. < 6
2. =
3. <-5
4.< 5

F. explain how you determined your answer for part 4 of question E.

Well its different for each person some need to use a numberline, some just see it in there head and calculate it, some subtract and add. I happen to do a mix of those three.
